How cute are these? It’s hard not to admire them. Slovak designer Roman Ficek was inspired by the paper sailboats of our childhood while designing these candles. He used the basic, well-known origami formula in a new material which enabled it to serve functional as Floating Candle Sailboats. They are available in seven pastel colors and they look even more aesthetic with their thin walls that lets the light to pass through them, highlighting their beauty. Reflections of the colored light on the water surface also enhances the effect. They have a burning time of 3,5 hours and are designed for calm water surfaces such as a water-filled bowl for decoration or simply a garden pool. How georgous they will look in a pool at nighs, right? I would definitely recommend them for weddings and events too.
Back in Turkey, of course I knew about Halloween. However, it’s not a part of our culture so there are just a few Halloween parties and nothing more. This year, it was a whole new experience for me! It was my first time celebrating it with approximately 500.000 people in West Hollywood and it was C-R-A-Z-Y !
Other than the costume I wasn’t well prepared for Halloween I just carved some pumpkins with my roomie. But I understood that people get much more creative than this. Here are some examples that were most interesting (or maybe most disgusting and horryfing!) for me. They are really easy “Do it yourself” projects, maybe try them next year!
Try starting the day with a scary-licious breakfast:
Skull Eggs & Bacon
Some other appetizers for the day; if you have the appetite for them!
1) Jello Worms: Simple to create disgusting worms with the help of straws.
2)Hand-punch: Really simple, all you need is a rubber glove filled with water get frozen.
3) Did you want hot-dogs? We have HOT-FINGERS!
This is truly scary, just make sure you serve them open and everybody sees what’s inside.
4) Watermelon brain: It’s strange how a watermelon can look so similar with a brain. This one will take some time and be careful with the knife.
5) Dead Gingerbread Man: It’s not scary but really cool, isn’t it? I would really like to make them but I would have to get another cookie to eat since they are so beautiful to be eaten 🙂
Prepare some simple yet scary decorations for your house:
1) Bloody Candles: Put them everywhere!
2) Welcome Carpet: Just fill some old socks and put some shoes. Not that scary but surprising for your guests.
3) Must have: Carved Pumpkin. I really liked this one’s design, be creative!
4) Head in a jar: This one’s very simple and crazy! Just follow the steps shown in the picture. Print a photo and put it in a filled jar and place it in your fridge/cupboard. This will certainly get people scared!
Sometimes, all you need to SELL is just good packaging!
That’s how Maui Brew Co. acquired me as a customer and as a new fan.
It was 3 weeks after I have moved to LA. I was totally a stranger to USA, to LA and of course to the products they sell here. I was just gazing over the beer section in the market and ta-daa! A really cool can got my whole attention. When I saw whole types of Maui cans there, I stopped looking for any other thing. I was so in love with them, I decided to buy all types one by one whenever I come for shopping -eventhough they were far more expensive than the regular beer brands.
Maui Brewing Company is Hawaii’s largest Craft brewery. They have 4 flagship beers including the coconut and pineapple flavours. Also, they offer other flavours according to the season as limited releases.
These remarkable illustrations are work of Edward Smith who has done some great designs for Maui over the years. My favourite one is the one I bought firstly: the Mana Wheat design. It is so artistic. Smith was influenced from Italian poster designer Luciano Mauzan for this design of a ukulele player wearing a traditional palm frond hat. Mana, if you’re wondering, is a form of spiritual currency in Hawaiian culture.
After bicycles here comes the balloons! I guess there is still a child inside me:) Balloons make me happier whenever I see them so I thought I should share this immediately.
The designer, Satoshi Itasaka is a product and furniture designer. He operates under the studio name H220430 with his partner Takuto Usami. As some of you may guess, he was inspired from the 1953 French movie Le Ballon Rouge. He wanted to give the feeling of floating just like the main character felt with his red balloon in the movie. That way, he created the “Balloon Bench”, the “Balloon Chair” and the “Balloon Lamp”.
“Balloon Bench” with little boy
Illusion is what made these designs possible. Although the bench seems like it is floating on its own; in reality it is suspended from the ceiling by 4 anchors which are concealed wih balloon shapes. Nothing is as it seems.. He really accomplished to create that illusion and that’s what makes this design that dreamy and -wonderful.
I can’t say that it is a functional or marketable design but still it is available for purchasing. If you want to make this dream real in your home then check out gallery SOMEWHERE in Tokyo, Japan.
Don’t we all love buying stuff with our names or initials on it? If you are a bike lover who always dreamed to have one of those cute bicycles just like me; then check out these ones, they’re the perfect combination!
“Write a Bike” is a serie of bike designs made by Juri Zaech. He uses the owners name as the frame design and makes bicycles even more special to you. Yes, that’s the most personalisation you can get with a bicycle!
He also didn’t forget couples and has designed bicycles for two with using both of the lovers’ names. In my opinion, it can be a really sweet and romantic gift and I would love to see couples driving it in the streets.
As you can guess, we can’t have them now since they are just at the design stage. However, if he works on these designs and manages to add pedals and other stuff aesthetically; I think people will adore them and I will be one of the first ones to buy it!
